Zadar September Travel Guide: Enjoy Fewer Crowds and More Fun

September 5, 2026 Destination

Zadar in September – Weather, Prices, Events and the Best Day Trips

If you are thinking about a holiday, Zadar in September is an excellent choice for a relaxing getaway by the sea. Summer is still here, the sea is perfect for swimming, and the biggest crowds are slowly disappearing.

Today is September 5, and the weather is sunny, with temperatures reaching a pleasant 31°C. You can enjoy the sea, sunshine and summer atmosphere without the biggest crowds of the peak season.

Fewer Crowds

One of the biggest advantages of September is the more relaxed atmosphere you can feel almost everywhere.

The streets are no longer as crowded as they are during the main tourist season. It is easier to find a spot on the beach, a table at a restaurant or a place along the Zadar waterfront. You can take your time exploring the Old Town and enjoying its atmosphere. The Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun are especially beautiful in the late afternoon. The sea is still warm enough for daily swimming.

If you do not enjoy large crowds, September is a great time to visit.

Zadar in September Often Means More Affordable Accommodation

If you are flying to Zadar, think carefully about the location of your accommodation. If you want to explore the city, staying in the centre can be a great option. You can step outside your apartment and find yourself right in the middle of Zadar’s everyday life. Restaurants, cafés, shops, attractions and the waterfront are all within easy reach. You will not need a car to explore the city centre. This is especially convenient if you have arrived in Zadar by plane.

However, staying in the centre also has a few disadvantages. You should be prepared for city life, people and occasional noise. During weekends, the centre can be particularly lively until late in the evening. Parking is available in the centre, but it is generally paid. If you are arriving by car, make sure to check your parking options before booking your accommodation. Before making a reservation, carefully check all the details of the apartment. Many older buildings in Zadar’s historic centre do not have an elevator. If having an elevator is important to you, make sure to check this before booking. The same applies if a balcony is an important part of your holiday. Do not assume that every apartment in the centre has a balcony. Always check the photos, accommodation description and reviews from previous guests.

The city centre offers convenience, but it can sometimes require a few compromises. Another major advantage of Zadar in September is that accommodation can often be more affordable.

After the main summer season, you can often find interesting deals on apartments and hotels. Of course, prices depend on the dates, location, quality and amenities. That is why it is worth comparing several options before making your final booking

If you are travelling without a car, it may be worth paying a little more for a central location. If you are arriving by car, accommodation outside the centre can offer better value for money and more space.

The most important thing is to decide what kind of holiday you actually want. Do you want to stay in the heart of the action, or would you rather return to a quieter place after a day in the city?

What to Do in Zadar in September?

Zadar does not stop being lively in September. The city continues to offer concerts, cultural events, festivals and various activities.

You can follow current events throughout the month on the official Tourist board website.

One interesting event in September is the Varoš Festival. Music lovers can also find concerts and other evening programmes throughout the city. The beginning of September also brings Hitchcock Nights, an event dedicated to the world of film. Zadar in September therefore offers an excellent combination of sea, culture, entertainment and relaxation.

Travelling Without a Car?

That is not a problem either. If you want to explore the surrounding area, we recommend checking the selection of tours on Get Your guide. There you can compare different tours, prices, durations and ratings from other travellers. Some tours also offer pick-up directly from your accommodation. This is especially convenient if you do not have a car and do not want to worry about finding the meeting point.

You can often find affordable trips to Plitvice Lakes, Krka National Park, the Kornati Islands and other destinations. We have personally tried GetYourGuide, which is why we can recommend it from our own experience. We chose a sunset cruise through the Zadar Channel. We enjoyed beautiful views of Zadar from a completely different perspective. If you would like to see what our cruise looked like, you can find it on our Instagram profile.

Zadar can therefore be an excellent base even if you arrive by plane. You can spend one day at the beach and another exploring Croatia’s national parks. That is why Zadar is more than just a summer holiday destination. It can also be a great starting point for exploring a large part of the surrounding region.

Why Choose Zadar in September?

If you ask us, the answer is very simple. You get sunshine, warm sea and a true summer atmosphere without the biggest crowds of the high season. Temperatures are more comfortable for walking, sightseeing and day trips. The sea is still excellent for swimming.

Accommodation can often be found at more affordable prices than during the peak summer months.

At the same time, Zadar continues to offer events, concerts and different activities.

You can enjoy the city, take a day trip or simply spend the day at the beach.

You can explore the islands, national parks and beautiful nature surrounding Zadar. For us, this combination is the main reason why we love September. If you want to avoid the crowds, save money on accommodation and truly enjoy your holiday, Zadar in September is an excellent choice.

If you are planning to stay away from the city’s busiest areas, our Coastal Apartments Zadar are an ideal base for your holiday. They are located in a quieter area while keeping Zadar within easy reach. You can enjoy the peace and quiet and then easily head into the city, to the beach or on a day trip.
