How to Create a Website Without Any Knowledge – My Story and Journey From Zero to Success

July 6, 2025 Blog

A year ago, I knew nothing about how to create a website. I didn’t know what HTML or CSS meant, or what WordPress was. All I knew was that I wanted to have my own website to promote the apartments I rent. I had an idea, a desire, and a goal – but no knowledge whatsoever. For me, it all seemed like science fiction. At first, I just wanted someone else to build the website for me.

Today, I can proudly say that I created my own website, even though at first it seemed like an impossible mission.

How to create a website without knowledge

It all started with a random click on Facebook. An ad popped up for a free online course called “Website Design and Development,” organized by IZM in Zagreb – a program co-financed by EU funds, and it was completely free with an adult education voucher.

My goal was clear – to create a website for the apartments I rent out. I wanted my own presentation – with photos, descriptions, prices, and a contact form – without intermediaries and commission fees.

The course lasted 3 months. The first month was tough – I kept asking myself: “Why did I even start this?” I didn’t understand even the basics. I spent hours rewatching the lectures, but slowly everything started to fall into place. I was persistent, and I was too embarrassed to fail the final exam!

To be honest, my motivation grew day by day – the recorded lectures were a lifesaver because I could rewatch them multiple times. I practiced for hours, deleted everything I made, and started again. I completed all the assignments on my own – and finally, everything started to make sense.

I learned how to create a website using HTML, CSS, how to build structure, connect content, apply design, and implement everything through WordPress. I did it all by myself, step by step – learning as I went. After finishing the course, I enthusiastically bought my own domain and migrated the site from the school server to my own address. I must mention how supportive our instructors were – they helped me choose the right plugins, gave advice on buying a domain, and were there for any doubts I had. That feeling of having created something of my own was priceless.

The result – a website that works and brings guests

Today, my website is live, gets regular visits, and shows up in Google search results. I get a solid number of clicks and have already received inquiries through the site.

It may not be perfect, but every line of code, every color, and every element is mine. And most importantly – now I know how to make a website on my own, and I can use that knowledge going forward.

Why am I sharing this?

Because maybe you’re thinking the same thing I did back then: “I can’t do this, this isn’t for me.”
You can. It’s not easy, but it’s possible.
If you have the will and the goal, today there are countless free courses that can open the door to the world of web design, even if you have no prior knowledge. I’m living proof of that. I’m still learning and updating my content. There’s no end when it comes to knowledge, but now I know that I can learn anything by myself. If I could do it, so can you – you just have to start.
